You know it's a bad day at the office when...

Recently a friend had a major Office Space moment and went all ballistic on his printer. Apparently there were curse words flying left and right and perhaps a punch or two which resulted in us taking an unscheduled trip to the office supply store in search of a new printer. Upon discussing the various equipment options with the store clerk and identifying a suitable replacement, I couldn’t help but ask my friend if maybe he might want to consider a printer that came upgraded with ‘roo bars’… to which his reply jokingly involved something about being bitch-slapped and we both laughed.

Now we’ve all been there before, ready to rip our hair out, seriously contemplating taking a sledge hammer to some piece of crap printer, fax machine, copier or other related piece of evil office equipment that has clearly been brought into our lives with the sole purpose of tormenting us and making our lives a living hell. Case in point, check out this man going postal at the office:

I’m sure we can all pretty much agree that it definitely isn’t funny when we are engaged in full on war with said piece of office equipment… It is however pretty hilarious watching someone else go all loco in that type of situation now isn’t it? …I’m just saying…

  2. @Donda: Office Space is great! .... I have to use the old editor on blogger. The new editor is missing all the buttons for adding images, etc. So I guess you are right, it is a piece of shit!! ...And thanks for the comment. I have missed my blog family while I have been away for the past few days.

  3. I've totally been there. I used to work for a bank, and my job was to use the world's most complicated machine to scan checks into the computer. It would get jammed on a very regular basis, frustrating the ever-loving CRAP out of me!

The thought of taking a baseball bat to that thing was oh so tempting, let me tell you! However, I would have been required to replace that ridiculously expensive piece of crap, so I just used verbal abuse to vent my frustrations. Ahhhh...good times.

  4. I love that he decided to copy his screen. hahaha. An innovator, despite his rage handicap.

I wish the video showed the aftermath. Like, the part where he is escorted, screaming, from the office by security.

  7. @Candice: I've certainly had my printer moments as well. I had one that was possessed and the only person who could tame that beast was my secretary. One day (when my secretary was out) my printer went all wonky and lets just say that I am very grateful there weren't cellphone videos around at the time. Otherwise I am certain it would have been my video up there on youtube that we were all laughing at!

@Charles: Yes, the attempt at photocopying the computer screen was rather ingenious. I'm guessing the folks in legal made sure that the part of the guy being escorted out by company security was deleted from the CCTV tape.

@Annoyed: I'm guessing my blog isn't helping when it comes to inspiring you to do more real, actual work!

@Jera: Yay! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I will definitely visit your blog!! ...Everyone else, check out Jera's new blog mentioned above. She is a talented photographer.

  8. Giggling now. :)
So much for technology saving us time.

  9. @Mynx: I'm glad I made you giggle!!! ...I was thinking the same thing about technology NOT saving us time when I was trying to print off a contract late the other night and lets just say that 'time saving' technology was not cooperating.

  12. Loved the video. Moments like that make me really glad I don't work in an office. I have a hard enough time with the computer and printer at my house! My bouts of rage are certainly YouTube worthy, but luckily they are never recorded.

  13. Love Office Space, and I really love that scene! My friend and I used to discuss doing the exact same thing to our fax machine. I hated that thing!

  14. @Erica: I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I think that one man pretty much summed up how we all feel about evil office equipment.

    -------------------

@Jess: I know right? Those fax machines seem to be everywhere! Maybe someone should start up an office team building exercise where staff members can beat the crap out of old office equipment. No doubt everyone would gladly participate.

  15. I feel for the guy having to deal with that shitty office equipment. You know his ass got fired!!!!

  16. @Anonymous: No doubt he got fired -- after being tormented for months or longer by crappy office equipment that drove him over the edge all because his company was probably too cheap to buy stuff that worked.
